Title: 84 Suburban.. hauler 5-15-15 UPDATE
Post by: lilred on May 04, 2013, 11:42:48 PM
I don't remember if I ever started a project post on this. Got a 84' Suburban year... year and a half... 2 years? ago... anyways.... 4wd, 6.2 diesel wouldn't run, etc etc. Ran new fuel lines, primed everything, replaced starter and starter wires, got it running... took off down the road and broke the transmission tail housing in half.
Let it set for a while, picked up a 92 NV4500 for it, tracked down a passenger drop tcase for that... new flywheel, new clutch kit, got that all in last week.

Did a little research and found out that hydraulic clutches were not offered in suburbans until 1985... so needless to say there was no where to mount the clutch master cylinder.. ==doh Been staring at it for a couple days, ended up pulling the speedometer cable out, and mounted the master cylinder there...
Today started working on a clutch pedal itself since the ones specifically for this truck are all mechanical linkage...

Gotta trim the brake pedal and put a pedal on the clutch tomorrow then I should be able to bleed it and back it out of the garage.
chevvv

Plans are: for now get it to where it moves under its own power, possibly streetable. Then focus on other unfinished projects.
Eventually getting 4'' suspension lift and 2'' body, going from 4.10's to 4.56's with 34-35'' tires. Hopefully swapping out the 10 bolt 8 lug front for a dana 60.
Hoping to see atleast 22mpg out of it. Doesn't seem to be too far of a stretch.

I don't see no 208/241 T-case lever assembly in that rig...............that nv4500 looks like its a little longer than a 700, so how did ya mount 208/241 lever?

gravity bled the clutch tonight, put a u joint in the rear driveshaft, filled the trans up and took it for a spin around the driveway 3-4 times. Only had low range cause I didn't feel like climbing under it again. Ran good, clutch isn't releasing all the way gotta do some tweeking there. Getting closer though :) did spring a leak somewhere in the cooling system, gonna have to track that down.

Got the tcase rebuilt, brought it home for the winter. Pulled the jeep out with it once, still need a front driveshaft. Other than that a few minor things and slap the dash back together, should be road ready in the spring :)

Pulled it out of its winter parking spot a few weeks ago, removed the home made clutch pedal I had made, pulled the column out and put in a stock pedal set out of a 85. Had to swap the brake pedal from the old setup, I think because this has hydroboost? idk the linkage to the booster was in a different position. Still having issues with the clutch releasing, where the slave cylinder is mounted the firewall is flexing too much, going to take some 1/8'' steel and see what i can do about that. It's in the middle of the driveway right now so I have to work on it :) plus blew the 4.3 up in my other truck so finishing this up seems easier than doing a engine swap at the moment.

Probably not putting rear seats in but I'll keep it in mind. I only use one seat in the geo, rather have the cargo space in the burb

If anyone ever needs to know how far a rebuilt np208 without a drop of fluid in it will go, it's approximately 800 miles. Which got me around town... And halfway to the bridge lol. Picking it up in the morning with another tcase installed... With fluid even ==doh
