I got a 509 casting 400 sbc two bolt main and Im building it with the parts I have so far I have a steel scat crank, 6.0 I beam rods with arp bolts and 11.5 to 1 dome compression pistons what kind of horsepower and torque do you guys think ill be pushing and what kind of top end like heads, intake, and cam would work best with my lower end I have to make this thing scream in my Malibu? I'm just really undecided with what I wanna use cause I want it done right and not clunk out on me or just be disappointed with the results. Thanks ==wgm
Forgot to mention .30 over with this thing so 406 sbc
i think RHS makes a nice set of aluminum heads for 406s.
theres no way to tell what kind power your going to make with out heads and cam.. but brodix and dart both make great sbc heads.
I run edelbrock aluminum head on my 400+. Have a good radiator and water pump. Don't get cheap gaskets either. Don't forget the steam holes.
we run a 408 which is bored 40 over.....we have brodix heads 2.08/1.60 heads which have had some hoging out done on them the cam is 680/650 lift...11.5 to 1 compression and we never put it on the dyno but its between 600 to 650 hp run 7800 rpm we are pretty happy with it....run on e-85 fuel
Is this for a street car or a bogger? the 6.0 rods push the pin into the ring lands on the piston. wich can cause issues with oil consumption. start off getting your block checked. 400's are known for having bad line bores on the mains, that would be the first thing to have checked. depending on how high you want to spin it, a good set of heads in the 200-215cc runner size would be a good choice with a .550-615 lift cam. and a 3000 stall will get things moving alone nice.
this is gonna be a street car motor in a 78 malibu with a 4 speed
