Its not bad. But id personally recomend a th350. 700R4 will definatly work. But from the things ive heard from other people and personal experience they arent super strong but if you want to go down the road you get over drive unlike the th350.

don't believe anyone that say's a 700 is weak.... If properly gone through then they are just as durable as a 350... I used to run a 700 when I had my 86 chevy longbox with a 425hp 383, 4:10's and 35 boggers and 38 tsls.

Now that I said that I would recommend a 350 or 400 for a dedicated mud truck, my reason for that is there's a larger jump  between 1st and 2nd in the 700 which means a larger rpm drop and loss of power when you hit second gear. If you plan to street drive more than bogg it then I'd go with the 700.  ==2cents

Added to what was said above...............the 700R4 has a  lower first gear than the 350 or 400 turbos.

okay yeah my bogger only goes out if its nice out or on big events. yeah the trans has been rebuilt and my motor maybe has 350 hp so I figured id go with a 700r4. so what yall are saying in a 700r4 the shift between 1st and 2nd r rapid.. where the shift in a th350 is longer?

not really "rapid" , you will have a bigger Rpm drop when you shift into second gear than with a 350 or 400 which your motor may or may not like if it's already in the truck I'd run it and see what happens you may be alright.

Theeee only reason I didn't "build up" my 700r4 is purely the fact that the parts cost a lot more.
But I beat on my 700, and never had issues. Stock weak 350 and 35s

They aren't bad but people tend to lean toward turbo 350s and 400s but they all have there strengths and weaknesses,

If it don't have one already put a shift improver kit in it.
I put one in my 700r4 when I rebuilt it and it can be setup for drag race mode.

Best thing you can do is put a big ole trans cooler on it...heat is the number one killer of any trans!
