Title: Building my own frame for rockwell truck
Post by: 84silverado on October 13, 2013, 12:04:45 AM
So I was informed today that last time my dad took my truck out he ended up jumping it alil bit without meaning too, now the from half of my frame is bent and tweaked, I always told myself the day it bent is the day I'd finally just build a frame and not worry anymore, well that day has come. It needs to be strong enough to hold up to my truck, 1984 Chevy rockwell truck Turning 18.4-26 tires on 2.5 ton rocks that are locked, powered by a sbc, th400 w/ 3500 rpm stall and a SCS with a 4 to 1 gear reduction. I'm thinking that I could build it out of 2x6 rectangular steel that 1/8 " thick. Would it hold or go to 1/4" steel? And suggestions or advice would be appreciated!!

Just curious are you gonna 4 link it? Or stay leaf springs?

I'm gunna stay leaf springs, I like them better personally, has a better ride, doesn't sway as much cause of being so top heavy, and when I stomp on it all my traction doesn't go to the rear while my front lifts up, it stays level more and I get a better start off the line... Plus I spend a few hundred in bigger spring and get a bigger lift vs. a few grand for new shocks..but that's just how I see it personally

you will get more squat of 4 Link and just use a sway bar to eliminate body roll! Your the first person that I've heard say leaf spring rides better lol but only you know what you prefer

I knew about the sway bar but I've rode in 4-linked trucks and I just don't care for it, I guess everybody is there own

Some 4 link setups you see.... Easily said.... Aren't up to par. Lol
I've seen some beyond sketchy setups. You could have rode in a truck where the suspension wasn't moving properly causing poor ride.

Weight transfer is traction. Without weight transfer, your just goin to spin your tires.
