Title: E85
Post by: jbeery78 on March 05, 2014, 11:41:38 AM
Anyone running E 85 in there boggers? What does a guy need to do to switch? I know ethanol can be corrosive to fuel systems, wondered what I had to do to my carb etc to make the switch. Seems like cheap race gas to me...  ;D

its just like running alcohol, use twice as much as gas. it draws moisture so you need the test tube to see if it has water in it.

To switch your going to need an ethanol compatible fuel system, lines pump seals ect. You need to run the engine ritcher with it either by re jeting or getting an e85 carb. To tune it in your going to want about10:1- 9:1 afr as compaired to the 14.7:1  with gas.

Yup I know how ethanol draws moisture, I plan on reworking my fuel system to be compatable with it. Do you guys think a 600 cfm edelbrock is enough carb to run e85 thru or should I step up the cfm? Motor is a 400 ford have a healthy cam heads smoothed up aluminum intake dual plane and headers.

Use a 750 for that many cubes

You don't need an alcohol fuel pump I haven't had a problem using a regular Holley blue pump

If you plan on using pump e85 buy a can of e98 to mix it up to true e85 you will need a tester obtainable from your Briggs and Stratton dealer

Mine is also a quick fuel 750. Edelbroc will set it up for you I think there is a air bleed you have to solder shut. Bigger from isn't always better if you slow down air speed you can loose power I would stay in that 650 to 750 from range

From the link I posted they prefer 500-600 cfm edelbrock carbs for the conversion, but once converted it can never be switched back... So I'm assuming they open it up for more fuel and change the cfm rating regardless of what you start with

They guy who started the Edelbroc conversions I spoke with on the phone a year ago he seals up a few Ports not needed then drills a few bigger then puts you're good rubbers. Neoprene in them and rejets
