Title: Trans mount
Post by: BLZNBIG on April 10, 2014, 03:38:22 AM
If your running solid motor mounts do you want solid trans mount or run a trans mount? Any ideas

I've always been told to run a rubber or urethane trans mount with solid motor mounts.....I've never seen it but been told bell housing or tail housing can crack and break if using all solid mounts

I run solid trans and motor mounts, haven't had an issue with the trans case or the t case adapter.

But I'm putting a Polly trans mount.

You just can't run a solid trans mount and a rubber engine mount

No problem.

But I wouldn't say that you will never have a problem, I just haven't had a problem YET. I hear all these horr stories about solid trans mounts, so I figured I'd spend the $70 on a really nice set of Polly transmission/ T case mounts. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Solid mounts are suppose to lock your frame rails and reduce/remove frame flex. So I can imagine if you tryed hard enough and still were able to flex the frame under some serious playing, then yeah, I'd assume it would break. If that was the only thing to break loll

Yeah, all I've heard was the stories, never seen it, but figure id rather not find out the hard way either.....I think they would be ok for drag racers, or the mud skippers, but if your just doing play bogs or going to the mounds.....have you ever seen how much then frame flexes.....you can literally see the cab and box on the truck twist a couple inches when you go in some ruts, and if you got no give in your frame to flex its going to whether you like it or not, and unfortunately cast aluminum is a little weaker than then steel frame loll so I can definitely under stand the stories of the bell housing breaking or tail shaft housing, as its not just the torque from the frame twisting in the mud, but multiply that with the torque of your engine and yeah somethings going to break
