Anyone know the rules for exhaust db levels and where it has to exit hearing many different changes

All I can find is 94db or less 20 inchs back from exhaust tip . What I heard was exhaust must exit behind rear axle is this true .
exhaust can exit anywhere
It use to be that way but nowhere in the new rules can I see it now.
