Title: 96 f250 trans question
Post by: GregYAMAHA on June 11, 2014, 11:57:00 PM
I have a 96 f250 4x4 which I believe is a c6 trans. Front seal is out leaking trans fluid from the bell housing. First slips bad. Shifts into second with no problem if I shift it on the column but won't hit 3rd. Just stays in second. Which leads me to believe it needs rebuilt. I found a c6 trans from a 2wd 3/4 ton an from looking at it can the tailshaft of the 2wd be taken off an bolt my transfer case to it?

you can change trail shafts but it all is done though the front of the trans. on ford you have to get trans for what motor you have.  dose your truck have over drive button? if it dose not then a c6 tran.  just pull your trans have it rebuild.

It should have an overdrive e4od being that new. The c6 was pretty much gone by 94. 5.0/5.8/4.9 share a bell housing and 7.5 is different and shares the old style 385 series bellhousing.

You can put the 2wd internals in the 4x4 case but at that point you might as well spend another 1-200 bucks an just rebuild yours or look for another 4x4 c6 I have 2 one is rebuilt the other one I don't know the condition of.

450 on the rebuilt one with a brand new converter. 200 for the other one.
