Hello everyone, i am a new member of the club. ==noob Thanks for having me! I found this chevy truck for sale in algonac. It had a severe rod knock, and was calling out for a new heart transplant. Lucky for the truck I just happened to have its new ticker just hanger around in my garage! Well I wanted a project and I got one now! Short term goal: give it a new heart and make it road safe. Long term goal (shooting for 2-3 years) dom tube frame, 14.9x24 on the rocks, scs, and a few more trimmings. I have a couple pics ill try to upload. the new motor is a 383 stroker.

welcomee
Sweet!
Thanks. Took a vacation from work today. ;D Just finished the install of a new steering column this morning. My new steering pump came in today and I should have it on this afternoon. That was $100 I never planed on. Ya see when I installed the 383 motor I forgot about the heads not being tapped for brackets. So I was forced to make a trip to the bone yard and find the low mount p.s. brackets. Well I found the brackets but murphys law ( well mainly GM) dictated that an 84 p.s. pump would not fit 1964 chevelle lower mount brackets :( Funny how all the little things seem to compound the deeper you get into a project! loll minor set back. No big deal for me. The wife on the other hand tells me she has noticed a more pronounced limp in my walk and keeps asking how my foot is doing. ==heehee Ill post more pics tomorrow ... of the truck , not my foot.
loll
Cool project!!!
Welcome 2 Wegotmud.com, cool project!
Finally got started with the build after gathering a few needed parts. Not much done but here are some pics.
Built a dolly to move the axle housing around .
Got the rear debraked and stripped.
Made up some new perches and mounts. Put new bushings in the springs.
Time to set the ass end on the ground. I will weld a 45* brace to the perches and weld everything down to the housing after I get the pinion angle set. But for now, it,s on the ground.
Started working on the front axle.
Checking out the hubs and gathering a parts list so I can place my order. So far it,s just seals. :) bearings all look good. I do plan on turning the hubs around for a narrower stance.
This will be cut off when I am sure my orbital valve and cylinder work. But for now, it makes a good handle. lol
welcomee to ==wgm I like your new Project. Now what is up with that old Mopar next to it ++peace ++peace
That is another build happening at the same time. ;D Top Secret
LOL.I just love them old Mopars.mopar buy love,Chey buy cost.LOL welcomee ==kp GotMud? ++peace
Lookin good
==kp looks like ya got it coming along good applaudd applaudd applaudd
Thanks guy's. I'll post more pics when i'm a little further down the line.
I got the bearings repacked and all the new seals into the front axle. I flipped the hubs for a narrower stance and swapped the knuckles from left to right so as to put the tie rod in front of the axle.
I made a beefier mount out of the old one. I increased the tube to a 2" diameter and increased the bushing from 1" to 1 1/2" diameter. I also in creased the bolt from 7/16 to a 9/16" . I moved the mount forward to get a better shackle angle.
I needed to hold my t-case in position so I could pull some measurements. Being that I only have two arms, I thought it might be a little bit cumbersome trying to pull the tape with one hand, while holdind the t-case with the other arm. So I came up with something a little lighter. ;D
Started to make the cradle. I still need to weld in the webbing and some cross bars.
Had a setback. ==pissed By flipping the hubs, I did not take into consideration the wheel diameter (16.1), or the back spacing. After grinding away some of the rod end, letting a few curse words fly, three pots of coffee, and desperately wanting to start smoking again, I come to the conclusion that I may be able to install a 1/2" wheel spacer.
I did manage to get all four wheels on. 8) It is now officially a roller. :) ++peace
lookin good! hope to see it rip around this year
Thanks 84, Me too!
Way cool! I dig the tires
Thanks J.C. I refer to them as my training wheels . lol Cause I'm quite sure they are going to teach me alot. loll
8)Just got this unexpected package in the mail today. That's a hell of a thank you! They did not have to do that. Thank you Memphis Equipment of Tenn.
That's cool
look cool
I managed to get some more things done on the rig. I made up some bushings and bars for the front axle and got them installed over the weekend.
Bottom bars are angled in straight. The top bars run parallel with the leaf and then turn inward after shackle extension.
Please excuse my ugly mug, but this was all I could do for size description.
Nice lookin truck man! Great build. Keep up the good work. a=f
Thanks Fireman, My plans are to get everything fabbed up, and then go back and sandblast and paint. Im shooting for the end of July, but I getting nervous. lol
Looking good applaudd Looks like it will do pretty good.
Thanks Clinker, I have high hopes for it . lol
Hello everyone, it been some time since my last post so I thought I'd give an update on my project. I ended up having to flip the hubs back outward to resolve the tie rod clearance issue i was having. The front now has a 102 1/2" stance. Not what I wanted but it is what it is. I took the th400 out along with the np208 and replaced it with a modified and rebuilt th350 with a 3000 stall, and a np208. That combo is going into a second military case so I can use the gm face loader axles as is. ( thank you Big Frank) . I made up the rear anti wrap bars but have not installed them yet. The front steering cylinder and orbital valve is now in place waiting to be plumbed into the power steering pump that has not been mounted yet. I purchased a billet grille and I did get the truck into paint before winter sets in. I wanted that done now so I can be ready when spring rolls around. ;D Here are a couple pics for now.
Looks good.

thanks guys, I miss typed about the transfercase . I reinstalled an np205 not a np208 . I am happy how the AU single stage paint came out. I was going to use b/c system but it was way to expensive . Besides, it's going to be covered in mud anyway.
