Title: Mounds
Post by: love2wheel on July 17, 2014, 03:53:18 AM
Ok well i'm in the process of building my expedition for nice family trail rig. I have been searching quite a bit and cant find any real good pic of the mounds. I know a lot of people from WGM go. Most of the pics i see, are of the big pits with guys on 44's or tractors. I hear a lot of guys taking mildly built rigs up there. Would love some pics of some of the trails or some of the trail riding. Looking at running 35's-37's. Is that enough for the mounds?

That's a big rig to go down most of the trails there. But the 35-37's will be fine just have to pick the holes u go in. There is a bunch of open areas out there with some nasty holes then there is a lot of woods and tight trails.

A lot depends on if you care about scratches and trail damage too, you can pick some open trails and be ok, but others get pretty nasty with branches  I've seen full size suburbans in the quad trails before, it all just depends on the specific trail

Plenty of trails that can handle stock tires and up like he said the trails are over grown starting to narrow the trails up

Im not to worried about scratches or mild dents. Its a trail rig not a trailer queen, lol. If i wanted a truck for car shows I wouldn't think about making it a trail rig. Is my expedition to big and to heavy for most of the trails out there? I've never been, always wanted to go, but never have. The mounds are roughly an hourish away from my house. They are the only ORV trails I can find in the bottom half of the L.P.. Any tips or tricks I should know about? I hate being the new guy "noobie" out there but I will be. Is there any trails you would recommend over another? I'm new to the mounds but not new to the sport.  So if I can prevent looking like a Jack a$$ as much as possible, that would be awesome! lol

Trails really arent marked..its more so just drive around and find stuff. The X will be fine..just dont get to far back into the woods with it or you might run into problems with trees and body damage.Theres also bundy hill, rocks and vallys,st helen and a few others that are worth checking out.Check out greatlakes4x4.com also for some pics.

Any pics? Do most people trailer their vehicles in and out of do you drive in drive out? just curious. Don't have a truck and trailer. One project at a time. lol
