What's the best way to get a trailer registered? I only got bill of sale with it. Its definitely not a home made trailer, should I go into it saying it is? Also can't find any vin number on trailer
Any idea how much it weights? Under 2500 pounds all you need is a weight slip.

yup and if you tell them its homemade that turns into having it inspected and a bunch of extra crap
So don't tell em its home made....won't they wanna see a vin n crap?
Gonna havta take it n get weighed.
Tell them it's home made and show up with a weight slip and it takes 5 minutes...done it twice now!

Less information is better..... Tell them you need to plate your trailer and the weight slip is all you have.

CAT scales is the best place. But mills, and scrap yards can as well.

Then sec of state, was easy
Of course this was 20 plus years ago

I must have bad luck up there I tried that and they wanted a police inspection and a bill of sale from where I got the material laying behind the barn wasent sufficient lol
if its over 2500 lbs you will have to get it inspected by the police fill out a slip with what you did to it and any receipts you have for the material. Then they will issue you a vin number for the trailer and then give you a plate. I was told it can take 2-4 months for them to get you a vin number. I will be going thru this once I get the 5th wheel trailer finished.

did you have to take the trailer in with you?
Nope
I called SOS and they said bring weight slip and bill of sale...and I will have tonfill out a material verification form or some crap and ill get my plate.. I told her on the internet it says I need s cop to inspect it and she looked again and said no. Guess ill find out soon
If it's over 2500# u will have to have it inspected
Just take the weight slip and the bill of sale, if you get it weighed and it is over 2500 (which I highly doubt) either pull some boards or 4 tires and re-weigh it. Trailers not that long, I'd put it at about 2100 if I was guessing on the heavy side. S10 pulled it like nothing empty.
If you don't want to chance having to weigh it twice, take the tires off before the first trip, leave the ramps at home.
Pull half of it off the scale...they don't give a crap what it weighs
better of doing it the right way and avoid headaches down the road when some jim bob cop pulls ya over and the plate says it only weighs half of what it really does and those weigh master/dot trucks we all see on the roads Will pull you over
I have never seen or heard of anybody getting pulled over because of trailer plates... I heard they are however doing away with permanent plates because the state isnt making enough money. Once again.
Gonna go in the morning n get it weighed . Got lights wired up tonight

what I was getting at was if you get pulled over for anything broken light speeding or whatever and your registration says the trailer weighs 500 lbs and it obviously weighs more than that you can be ticketed for having a improper plate ive been there and done that just my 2 cents
No need. Trailer weighs 1540 lbs. And its a tri axle made outta 6 inch I beam so its a 10,000 lb trailer at least.
Went in with weight slip and bill of sale and $75 later walked out with a plate
COOL next time I need one im gunna send you too take care of it lol
Lol
