Title: Legal spots to play
Post by: Swampthing on March 19, 2006, 03:02:31 PM
How about a spot where we can post the legal spots at?? I know of  great spot in St. Helen, at the orv scrambles area.... 2 square miles of trails and sand pits... with a decent hill in the middle of it all......There is a nice parking area..local napa store (has decent prices on stuff). And.. it is not far off of I-75....

I think I've been there.  Its out by the lakes and the camp-ground I used to go to an the holidays.

I agree for a spot to post legal wheeling spots! that would be cool!

they had a death at bull gap a couple years back and the hill closes at 9:00 pm now. the accident happened in the "shoot" on the side of the main hill. they are closed from what I am told. I went down them a few years back...steep as heck. my shoulders were on my back rack on the quad with the rear brakes locked up at the way down.

The death at bull gap, was a direct result of alcohol. and trucks... plus being dark, didn't help... another alcohol-truck accident THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED... it is another case of..a few people ruining a good thing for everyone...  think when you are out playing and drinking...

I guarantee you that there are NO legal, open to the public wheeling spots anywhere near what is quoted above.  If the property owner sees you there and you do not have permission, be prepared for your vehicle to be impounded and maybe arrested.

Now if you have permission, that is a whole nother ball game.

Oh... and its

Sundowner not sunset.
Capac not kapac.
Richmond not ricmond

:P

i went there with him this last sunday. and the pontiac police pulled up and stopped us all for about 10 mins and then he turned around and said never mind continue over the PA. reason for stopping us was that he was looking for the guy that was hunting in another part of the place. so you can go four wheeling but you cant hunt. makes since because it is right off a subdivision.

Drummond Island, MI
Had an offroad park for smaller trucks and jeeps....deep bottomless mud, tight turning, two tracks, rock hills, plus on the island you can drive the truck on the road as long as you are not drunk and reckless. Respect the area and you are cool. Good for a weekend stay in the hotel on the island. Don't miss the Ferry or you are staying another day.

I am not to like 20 mins out of pontiac and would like to see the wheeling spot out there if someone wants to take me in like 3 weeks (I am finishing up a few repairs on my truck except the 4x4 so it should be fun in 2wd). You can always run the trails in back of the trailer park.
My old shop was over there & we wheeled every night with the kids.
Pretty limited.

What ya need for your Bronco?

I have all the parts you could ever need.. PM me..

well i didnt really say it was legal or not. but everyone that i have talked to that is there says it is. and i have been there all day one time and had no problem. i pulled in my 1st time and 3 state pigs just waved at us when we went in. and i have been there atleast 20 times since and am going back on Friday with 10 other trucks so it should be sweet

i went there with him this last sunday. and the pontiac police pulled up and stopped us all for about 10 mins and then he turned around and said never mind continue over the PA. reason for stopping us was that he was looking for the guy that was hunting in another part of the place. so you can go four wheeling but you cant hunt. makes since because it is right off a subdivision.

Where is this place??

Place in Pontiac is across from prior (burned down) Shenanigans. Giant field with dirt bike track, has a mean when wet giant trail right behind aldi's with lots of trails for quads/bikes. You can see the trail to your left leaving Dixie onto Kennett. Playing alone is not recommended. Here's a mapquest link.. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Pontiac&state=MI&address=673+W+Kennett+Rd&zipcode=48340-1647&country=US&latitude=42.665384&longitude=-83.32599&geocode=ADDRESS

Hit me up if you wanna check it out...I try to go all the time. Cops don't care just leave only tire tracks. I took Blazin40's there once and saw a cop talkin to a guy, turned out the cop just gave a speal and left. Guy said cops don't care and rarely have issues. If you wanna know more pm me as well.

The stables are not a legal place... period.  It is private property and your truck will get impounded.

In fact there is nothing along Romeo Planc that you can legally wheel without the owners permission.  And I mean FROM the owner.  Not 'Bob told me the owner doesnt mind'.

Got an update regarding the Pontiac Field. I noticed that the gate was shut with a mound of dirt blocking the fence and they also blocked off the curb entrance on telegraph. Apparently they are developing it and I was talking to "Urbanmudneck" last sunday and he said that anyone caught in there will be prosecuted etc,by the owner as they appear to be finally developing the land. Drivng by it is kinda sad. :(

Here in New Hampshire we have what is called "Class 6 Roads". These are LEGAL roads that are not maintained by the State or Town but are open to public use. Travel on Class 6 Roads is STRICTLY a "Tread Lightly" means of four wheeling. Excessive throttle use or driving off the trail can and has lead to road closures. There are Class 6 Roads all over the State and usually at least 1 in every town. Most Class 6 Roads I have been on usually lead out to Power line Trails owned by the Public Service of New Hampshire. These trails are usually open to the public unless they cross private land. Power line trails are AWESOME! They provide a great mix of hills, rocks/ ledges, and deep mud/ swamps. Some of these trails go quite far out into the wilderness and can go from relatively easy to very extreme quickly so traveling on any Power Line Trails alone is NOT a good idea. Some people would argue with me and say " Power Line Trails are not legal places to wheel." but in the 15+ years I have been behind the wheel of off road vehicles we have wheeled on Power Line trails and never had any issues. I have met and talked to New Hampshire Fish and Game Department out on Power Line Trails, I have met and pulled out the local Police Department out on Power Line Trails. I have even come upon P.S.N.H. workers out there and they always smile and give a friendly wave. The only time it is an issue wheeling on a Power Line Trail is when the land has been purchased by a private owner and the trails have been posted with signs stating "Wheeled Vehicles Prohibited". If you see one of these signs you'd best turn around.

It is cool!

The Power Line Trail that is located off of Osgood Rd. (Class 6 Road) here in Milford goes all the way to West Buxton, Vermont! (2/3 of the way across the State) You'd better have something REALLY serious to be able to make it but it goes. The usual ride I do goes through 3 Towns and goes to a place called Fletcher's Granite. The total round trip takes about 4 1/2 hours if you don't stop along the way. There are "side obstacles" along the way such as "The Steps" a small abandoned granite quarry that has a series of granite steps that range from 6" tall to 3' tall and they drop you down about 60' in elevation into a series of dump piles that have broken pieces of granite ranging from small rocks to 8'-15' slabs. This area contains the "Sheet Metal Trail" appropriately named because you risk your body panels (and drivetrain) attempting this trail. It isn't that long but it cannot even be attempted without a minimum of 35's and a locker at both ends. There also are several mud bog area's along the way including the "Lagoon", the "X Bog", the "Pole Hole", "Josh's Mud Hole" (VERY DEEP!) and "Mile Slip" There are also various swamps and water crossings along the way. Another thing that can be found out there are hills, lots of them! Some are not that bad and others are wicked hard. The hills are named after numbers from east to west, Hill 10 is one of the hardest. It is very steep and has a ledge section towards the top. Hill 14 and Hill 15 are all little round rocks about 6"- 10" in diameter and they are very hard to get traction on.

This is just a very brief summary of one of the more than 100 Power Line Trails that cris-cross this State!
