Title: 97 ram transmission HELP!!!!
Post by: gator82 on January 18, 2015, 01:08:12 AM
I have a 97 ram ½ ton 4x4 with a 360. My transmission howls in reverse and the truck will stall after backing up and switching to drive. While driving if i come to a stop and go to take off, it revs up like its in neutral for a second or two, and then hits and starts moving. Also while driving it shifts in and out of overdrive but only maybe once or twice a week. Could it be a bad solenoid, valve body, or need a rebuild? Would a B&M shift kit help it? Has anyone experienced this? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated.

Out of adjustment. Needs a filter and fluid swap and adjusted. Damage is already done but adjusting it should get you by for a while longer.

Loosen the jam nut and run in the adjuster rod till its tight. Back it off about 3/4-1 turn and lock down the jam nut.

Not trying to steal post.
Just curious as to what the adjuster is and what it's doing?

Is it a band adjustment?

Rocker arm type adjustment that some how set's the pressure on the clutches. Not exactly sure how it works but i know i adjusted a couple of them and one miraculously got reverse back and the other started shifting better and gained a couple MPG.

I'll giver a shot. I'm wondering if I might have a bad control module or the whole computer. I noticed today while the tranny was acting up, that it won't steady idle. It it bounces from around 400-1000 rpms and sometimes die. It is also running real rough when i first start it when its cold. And just now checked and I think my check engine light is disconnected. I'm going to go get it scanned. Thanks for the help
