Title: 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 engine swap questions
Post by: 84silverado on September 06, 2015, 07:34:12 PM
Just have a few questions about the engine swap. Like what year range can I work with? Also the engine is a 5.2 318 magnum engine but I want to change it out for a 5.9 360 magnum engine. It should all be the same except for the computer right? Also this is a 5speed 4x4 truck. Thanks.

I know on the automatics one engine is internally balanced, the other is external  I'd assume the manuals are the same so you will probably need a new flywheel for the 360.

Easiest way to find out is call a parts store and see if the flywheel for one engine is a different part number than the other.

5.2 or 318 are internally balance, 360 external balance.

I did the swap with another 318 after I ran numbers. No more burning oil by the gallon. just trying to figure out why my clutch is squeaking now.

Did you replace the clutch?    If not and you were leaking that much oil maybe your clutch disk is soaked .  also maybe your disk just has to seat into your new flywheel .  Also could be misaligned.    Just a couple thoughts    good luck.

I replaced this clutch 7k ago, and I was just burning oil so it was dry when I took it removed it from the old engine. I put a new throw out bearing on that's it. The new throw oil bearing is the only thing I can think of and I'm not about to pull it all back apart for just that. I can live with the noise  ==np

Ive had the cheap plastic throwout bearings squeak before. They usually last atleast a few months LOL

could be the throw out bearing ????    just thought also could be the pilot bearing ???    "oillite"is a name brand , they are the best, they are bronze and impregnated with a lubricant.    you can get them at carquest.   the cheap ones look bronze color but do not have the lubricant.   also they are easier to install and align than a roller bearing, there really is no need for a roller bearing unless you are thrning high rpms. just another thought??? good luck

yea i put in a new throwout bearing while i had it apart since it was squeaking, mudding might has been a factor loll guess i should done a pilot bearing while i was at it. i think im just gunna live with the noise. when i have to replace the clutch again or it gets worse ill deal with it.
