Mean 1/2 Dozen

This is the second time this year I have had to replace the spider gears in the Dana 35 rear-end.  I guess I don't need to look further for the weak link in this... ==doh  Cain Rd. bog was a blast until this happened!
Any ideas on which way to go - Dana 44 or Dana 60? ???

betterbeaters

go 14 bolt rear and dana 60 front you will be very happy!

you need to be a little more specific, what do you wanna do ??? keep the same width or go fullsize ??? if you wanna stay the same width then get an 8.8 out of a newer explorer they are pretty strong and you can find them stock with 4:10's and disk brakes.

here's a link to a site that can answer just about any ? you have about your Jeep http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/index.php

By the way I have a ff14 bolt in the rear and a 10 bolt up front  ;) ;) ;)

Huh, I did the exact same thing to my 44 not too long ago, only my parts left over were a little smaller than yours..

the problem may not be the axle assy. it may be the loose nut on the end of the steering column.. seriously,,  I was airborn and just plain did'nt let off the gas when I hit **SNAP**..

if you strengthen the axle assy. what becomes your next weakest link??
Transfer case?
Tranny?
drive shaft?

it is best to make the cheap easy parts the weak link, so think about it before you upgrade.
just my .02

this is a common dana 35 rear problem, dont feel foo bad. those axles are a waste of space. It just depends on if you want to go fullwidth or not.

jeeppgal jeepp   In life  if your not living on the edge your taking  up to much space.

also, an FYI for the YJ wranglers- the leaf sprung 44, and the D 60 from the 77-79 era ford f-250/350's will just about bolt right up. the perches are only ~1/2" off. that is if you are still running a drivers drop driveline
