How much should I expect to pay?

I am working out a deal with my neighbor for an '87 1/2 ton Silverado.  It is a short bed
and would need a new cab and possibly a new bed.

The doors, hood, fenders, and grill came off of a '90 Suburban Texas truck so they are completely rust free and look brand new.

I haven't really looked into it yet, but the floor pan is rotted out pretty bad on it on the drivers side all the way to the cab mount, so I am thinking it is not repairable.

Assuming the worst here, how much do you think I could find a replacement cab and bed for?  I wouldn't mind something that needs a little bit of work, but would prefer rust free.

I would probably be looking for parts sometime later this summer.

well a good cab with title would run ya around $200 and i see short beds run around $300-$400 all the way up to $600 in good shape.

I didn't even think about the title, but that is much cheaper then I was thinking.

that is a good deal for a cab with title.  ive normally seen those go for upwards of 400 to 500  about the same as a box in good condition.    call b&b salvage up in sandord and also Zemko's in clare.   B&B deals alot wih newer vehicles and Zemko's is a 4wd junk yard but even if this truck is a 2wd your talkin about a cab and box for a 4wd is the same thing.

i thought 200 for a decent cab was a little underpriced depending on how good of shape u r looking 4 it could be a little morte pricey than 200 but if u find one 4 200 great

Actually, even $500 - $600 ain't bad.  I was honestly expecting almost $1,000!

Oh, and yes, it is 4x4.  I would never buy a two wheel drive truck...

Honestly I would not look for a cab and bed. What I would do is find a 2wd pickup with a gazillion miles for cheap then take everything you need off it!

Not a bad idea at all!  What about the VIN though, are they specific for four wheel and two wheel drive?

yes a vin will state whether or not it is 2wd or 4wd but that doesnt really matter.  i know a few people running around with 4wd trucks but with a title that says its only a 2wd.   as long as the title you have matchs the vin to the vehicle then your good to go

Parts truck might be a better option. Look down South. Find a rust free driver from some old man and drive 'er home and start swapping.

I seen a lot of people convert a 2wd into a 4wd, There is no law forbidding it...just has to be done right.

$200 is WAY cheap for a descent shape cab... and with a title.
