I am growing green onions...can I plant them now and harvest them this year or do I have to wait until next year? This is the first time I have grown Onions so I don't know.

The Ol'Lady bought some dirt and seeds but what they are I don't know LOL and of course she hasn't done anything with it all yet.

You will get your onions this year. Unless they are winter onions, and the will go new onions on the tops. I've planted a few seeds but still a little early for most stuff.

Help me out too..  My granddaddy past away some time ago. I dug up some winter onions fro his yard and planted them in my yard some 5 yrs ago. I still have the same patch growing. Mid summer they grow babies on thier tops. I take the babies and plant them. Now I have rows od old timers onions and these new sprouts growing all over.  They are a part of my grandpa so I just let them grow..  So my question is? How do I get these to make onions I can eat?  Maybe I should google winter onions?  They do add some pretty spike look to the garden..

Not yet. Got the plot plowed with the horses but with it being so wet and trying to get the crops in before it's too late is taking up alot of our time.

Those are small salad onions and will not get very big.  You need to hit a garden center and get some sweet spanish onion plants to get the big onions. They come in white, yellow, and red. Yellows will last the longest.
