Anyone though of making their own E85 yet? I though about making my own bio-diesel because that is what I use to heat my house with, however then I would have to purchase diesel powered vehicles. Then you need a steady supply of waste veggie oil.

I can buy conversion kits for our vehicles for about $350 to run E85....I see people already doing it on the internet, basically just set up a still and start making moonshine, 85 gallons of white-lightning + 15 gallons of gas and you have 100 gallons of E85 for under $100.

This is looking like a pretty tempting option as apposed to paying aver $4 a gallon at the pump pretty soon!

E85 burns in half the time regular gas, I.e. 20 gallons of fuel would last longer than 20g of e85, just bc e85 is cheaper u spend more bc it burns so quick, and I herd its not very good for ur engine

You lose about 20-25% fuel economy running E85 so 100 gallons of E85 would be equal to 75 gallons of gas...now lets do some math.

100 gallons of homemade E85 cost under $100

75 gallons of gas at $3.30 a gallon at today's average price equals $247.50

Now wait until all this oil crap drive prices up to $5 a gallon and think about how much money can be saved.

As far as E85 not being good for your motor is a total myth. You run ethanol in your vehicle every day...most gas has 10% ethanol in it now days, it is very hard to find 100% gas anymore.

Ethanol burns way cleaner and cooler than gas and has higher octane rating, in turn you can up the compression in your motor and program computer for more timing, can also run super charger or turbo with crazy boost...mods like these would create better fuel economy and eliminate that mpg of E85 vs straight gas gap.

Many of the turbo import tuner folks are already on to E85 for these exact reasons and running 30psi of boost on daily drivers and getting better mileage than running straight gas at lower boost levels.

Alcohol carb...modern, cars you can buy conversion kits, I am opting for a more expensive kit that automatically detects the % of E85 in your tank, they have cheap kits but you have to manually switch to either E85 or gas and you can only run one or the other.

I need to stupid proof this for the wife ==roll

The kit I am thinking about comes with all the seals, gaskets, O rings, ect that I would need to change in order to run it.

355REDNECK

to run e85 u have to put special seals, gaskets, O rings

the e 85 will eat away the seals and other soft parts of a carb    also fuel lines  i was out in iowa 4 or 5 years ago and that e 85 was  real cheap like 99 cents a gallon  burned twice as much and  that winter the fuel lines on my truck were leakin when i pulled all them off i discovered the lines had rusted on the inside more than out   i think the trucks engine got hooked on the stuff beacuse it never ran the same after   JMO

355REDNECK

what kind of fuel lines would u have to run to run it

stainless or that plastic stuff new cars have on them

355REDNECK

would u have to run special rings oil seals gasket and stuff like that

i dont think so but not for shure  just the fuel delivery parts carb fuel lines and stuff but not shure

yea when i get it thats where i go

Eroq

i run it all the time in my 01 sonoma  2.2L flexfuel   $35 for a full tank vs  $50   less MPG with e85  but there is a bit of a boost in performance, its not much outta the lil 4 cyl but its noticible.     i get about 15mpg with E85 and about 20mpg goin to and from work, backroads doin 55   even higher on highway.
