I just dropped in a Mallory Comp 900 Dis and never checked anything.  LOL  Worked great.  I still have the HEI I pulled out of it but don't know if that was original or not.

o mine has like a hex drive on the oil pump not the same as a normal one. and im being told that if i dont change the pistons i wont be happy with it

Someone is leading you into more work than needs to be done.  Pistons are fine.  These things are torque monsters.  If you want high HP and high RPM build something else.  If your content with no high revs then leave it be and run it.

Just curious what gain could come from just changing the piston? More compression maybe lighter?  Either way I can't see where the cost will be worth the gain. I know nothing about tall decks except I'm gonna use the tall deck lsx block to build a 500ci small block over the summer!

The pistons are very expensive. Use what ya got, youll be fine!
