I have a 1986 chevy monta carlo 305 engine.. Well the motor has a miss on the driver side of the car only. This is what i did to it so far I put new excell cap, coil, rotor, wires, and plugs in it and it is still got the miss. So i checked the copression on each cylinder it is 150 psi. I check the fuel presure and it is 5 psi at rollover and about 8 psi when running. Plus i put a brand new timing chain and gears in it to.....

did the miss just start or has it been losing power check your cam lobes sometimes they go flat on a lobe causing your prob.  Really hard to say with out looking at it all you should have to do is pull vavle cover

billyg2187

yes it just start but already pulled the vavle covers and they all move just fine.

being a flat tappet cam....depending on the oil that you are using...this is what i suspect being the problem.

how'd the old plugs look? any discoloration or residue?

Also did you pull the entire distributor assembly and check the gear out?  Worn teeth could be the problem.

weak or broken valve spring?? also have you checked all your rocker studs, has one of them risen a little bit? had a 305 do that once, ended up having to install screw in studs cuz they just started pulling out one day, which caused a loose rocker and thus a valve to not open fully and that in turn caused a miss on that old motor, just a thought for ya.
