Bought a 98 chevy 1/2 ton w/t with the 4.3 about 3 months ago. When I bought it, it had a really bad miss while driving. While sitting it runs GREAT! First bump of the key and it fires right up. So I come home, change the plugs, wires, cap and roter, new fuel filter (old one was still really clean inside but still) dropped and drained gas tank and filled up with all fresh gas. Truck ran amazing for about 3 weeks. No problems at all. At a light one day and started to sputter at take off like she was out of gas. Runs and misses like p00 until  truck gets to cruising speed. So I take check plugs and there fine, wires still good, so I pull cap and rotor and notice inside of cap was  slightly crusty on the inside prongs. Cleaned them and she ran great again. A week go's by and again starts sputtering again. So I just throw a new cap and rotor on (encase old one was defective) fixed problem right off the bat. Now 4 weeks go by not one problem. Last night, coming home, sitting at a long light, go to take off, and sputtering again when taking off. It spits and sputters bad until I hit cruising speed. WTF!!! No check engine light, Oil is not gassy, plugs are good, wires are good. No vacume leaks, but if I clean the cap and rotor again, she will run like a brand new truck for about 2 weeks then fall on her face again.

just thought here  are you getting caps with brass contacts or alum?

Thats a common problem with vortec caps, try using a delco cap.  The cheaper ones crack easily and thats where u get the corrosion

Right now I went with Autozone's Duralast cap and rotor and it's aluminum contacts. I called autozone back and they don't have a gm style. ( so I guess i'm calling a dealer ouch) They have the duralast, a gold series that has copper contacts, and a Accel cap. The Gold is their most expensive style. These damn caps are stupid expensive!!

Ac delco or other quality cap with brass contacts... moisture kills 4.3s when it gets in them cheap caps.
