bearing buddys

had a conversation the other day about bearing buddys and how the grease could ruin the breaks.......has any one ever herd of this?


and have you had good luck with them?

Ruin the brakes?  Maybe get some grease on them if your rear seal is bad or you pump a crap load into them.  They help keep the bearings well greased. You don't need to pump a whole tube of grease into each hub just a few pumps here and there.

I've never heard of it, and I.install them at work sometimes, I like them easy to use and like Chevy racer said the only way they are gonna ruin your brakes is if the rear seal leaks, I know when I greased them at work the grease started comming out the front of the bearing buddy if you over filled them

Me personaly I don't care for them. I don't think they do a good job of getting the grease in the bearings J.M.O.

We have them on our boat trailers, we thought about putting em the travel trailer and hauler but decided not to.... I still prefer taking the bearings out and greasing them by hand, that way I know its greased up and I can inspect bearings and races.   you cant do that withe the buddies, and if you do there is no sense in having them. I think they are more designed for the "lazy guy" or them people that don't know what they are doing and dont want to get their hands dirty      But I pull and repack all of our bearings on all of our trailers once a year, probably to much especially for the trailers that dont get used to often but better safe than sorry

how does it get the back bearing. jw

you pump grease into it and it gets back there eventually, by going around the spindle I guess.   Im not a fan of em lol so not to sure opn they work

I run them on my boat trailer it gets some grease in there better then none

I run them on my travel trailer. When I installed them I cleaned and packed the bearings, then installed them. That way I knew there was plenty of grease in te bearings when I started, I just make sure I keep the bearing buddies full, and they do the rest. They keep constant pressure on the front side of the bearing pushing the grease towards the inside. Anytime I've seen the overfilled, they leak out the front, so no damage to the brakes. If you have a bad seal on the inside, the brakes will get greasy whether you hand pack or use the buddies

Bearing buddys are not an alternative to re-packing bearings, you should pull the bearings out inspect them and the races, repack by.hand install a new seal and then install  bearing buddys as an added "bonus" to "help" keep the bearings greased to prolong bearing life

They are designed to be pumped full of grease with a grease gun and that forces grease to to inside bearing, the grease is forced around the spindle to the bearing

agree for me it ensured I do not have to repack as often.  but it does not eliminate repacking all together.  I hand pack the bearings every other year now, and they look better than when I packed them every year without bearing buddies.

They help prevent premature bearing failure
spring loaded plate keeps pressure on the grease to feed the bearings..
boat owners are happy to have them, they reduce the amount of water inside the hub
and also allow you to pump any water intrusion out.

NO they are not a cure all for proper preventive maintenance.

i had them on a 5th wheel trailer that went to alaska and back and never had any trouble with bearings
