You can only go as far as your truck will take you

Ok from a steel worker.....I've done this many times
Take a new piece of 1/4" flat stock and grind  on 1/4 side to center (opposite of what you would a knife blade) it will push the metal to center amd repeat on opposite side until almost Sharp.
If u feel edge it will be rough, steel is not naturally a smooth material so the splinter in your skin more then 99% went in like a wasps stinger and little fingers on it are holding it in your skin and everytime u squeeze or push on it it will bury deeper and not be able to retract, like said before dig around it til u can see end, tale piece fabricated and set across and drag across, the rough fingers of the splinter will catch on the fabricated piece and pull it out
It may take few times but will work.

i never got it out, never even seen it, not sure if it healed in or worked itself out? quit hurting about a week ago, and the hole healed over.

yep when I get metal slivers... I try to cut em out myself.... If that fails  I give it a few days for it to sometimes work itself back to the surface..... If that fails and it looks like it might start getting infected I go see the doc....

I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about it rusting up in ya... unless it was rusty when it went in then ya could get tetanus,  but if it was clean metal then it wont rust.... metal needs oxygen to rust :)
Theres oxygen in there. With time it will rust, had one in my eye and it rusted.
red blood cells carry oxygen loll how do you think we survive?
