what has to be done to a 2wd trans to make it a 4wd ? I heard that you need to change the tail shaft, but couldn't I just cut the 2wd down?

Can't cut it down, the shaft isn't fully splined. So you would just have a blank shaft with no splines. You have to change the tailshaft

Then you need the transfer case adapter for what ever case you use. Orrrrrrr, you can just keep it 2wd, and use a divorced case

Easiest thing to do is just buy a 4wd 700r4 all ready to go. Too much trouble tearing down 2wd trans to convert them. Save's time and a lot of hassle.
