axle ID

i have a ford dan 60 up front on my 85 but i cant remember what year it came out of , so i need to know the year  how do i do that without the ID tag off the axle? . what about the number off the axle housing?

there a  number  to  the  right of the cover.     if you  can  run that  its the  build number.  all you  info can be gotton from that.

Ranger Dave is right, its to the right of the housing , it will be stamped in tube, you may have to wire brush the area and use a crayon to color it, then wipe crayon off and you should be able to read it, then you call Larry  Mull from now parts and he can  tell you everything about that exact axle!!
