i just came across a deal on a driverside drop 241 transfer case out of a 97 or 98 3/4 ton truck.  now my 82 chevy has a passenger side drop 208 t case.  would i beable to take the guts out of that 241 and put them in my 208 or no?  i dont know the gear ratio difference between the 208 and the 241 but i was told that a 241 t case would be better in my truck.  but they are a lil harder to find.  so i was wondering if i can swap out the guts?  if so  is it worth it to do it  or wont i notice much of a difference?

thanks for any help

Even though I'm a firm believer in that the (NP241 and Np208) are basically the same (internally) I know that they are not.....................so no...........I wouldnt attempt trying to swap parts from 1 T-case to another.

The Np208 has a 2.62 low range..........and the Np241 has a 2.72 low range............so your not gaining a whole alot.

The NP241 T-case that you are looking for......................can be found in any 1989-1991 K5 blazer and fullsize suburban and they are passenger side drop..........just make sure its 27 spline for 700r4/ and not 32 spline 400 turbo (400 turbo optional in 3/4 ton suburbans)

But since the passenger side drop Np241 was only offered (3 years) they tend to be harder to find than the more common driverside IFS drop 241's.

yea i know i need the passenger side drop and that the 241 is a lil harder to find but i thought maybe i could swap out the parts.  i figured  everything was the same  just geared a lil diff on the inside.  but since they are that close i wont bother.

just thought id check  cuz i could pick up that driverside drop 241 cheap.  guess i could still pick it up and keep it as a spare for my 91.
