I put a lift on my 1987 GMC pick up yesterday. Now my Wife is having trouble getting in. The truck has dual gas tanks (saddle side type). So they are right under the cab. I thought about using the single step on like pictured below. But I think unless I drop the gas tanks to install them I would have to mount them forward to clear the gas tanks. I was just wonering if anyone else has added side steps to there older Chevy/GMC and what they used and how they did it.

They make several styles.....

The old running board style.........you can buy this in dimond tread aluminum.....or plain aluminum.............I've seen these on ebay. These bolt to your lower sheet metal ( rocker's/cab corner & box side....and I think they might have a couple rods that bolt to the frame.........I cant remember since I havent had this style in 12 years

You can buy the pipe bar style step bars on ebay also.............but these bolt right to the frame..........you might loose some ground clearance........maybe not.

Personally I would get somthing that bolts to the frame.............that way you dont have stress being put on the rocker panels........depending on how solid they are. Also........rockers will rot out faster having holes drilled in them for mounting running boards....or step bars. hope this helps.

I have a set of aluminum dimond plate running boards off a 79' 3/4 ton regular cab truck,  you can have them if you want them.
