Leave the disk in the drive and reboot.  It should come up "Press any key to boot from cd"  Then follow Xp instructions.

If you dont see boot from cd.  You need to get to boot menu or setup menu to change boot order to cdrom.

Alot of the times Service pack 2 will have your drivers.  So update to that before you get crazy on lookin.

Did that XP disk come with the computer?  Sounds like not.  If it is a newer laptop with a SATA hard drive you might have to slipstream SATA drivers to XP disk before starting.

On disk larger than 127gb you need SP2 or SP3 slipstreamed to see larger than 127.  A 1TB shows 127GB.  I don't think this is it or you would see something.

You can slipstream SATA drivers and SP3 at once.

Seach.  "slipstream xp sata SP3" you will come up with something.  I would slipstream SP2 then just run SP3 from file.  Had problems before installing drivers after adding 3.

p00 dont worry about service packs just get the right SATA driver in there.  LOL

Microsoft will not let you install an older version of windows over a newer version...you need to wipe the hard drive clean of the operating system that is already on it by reformatting the hard drive. There are programs out that will also wipe the whole hard drive...windows washer is one that comes to mind. It will let you create an erase disk that once inserted will remove everything on drive including operating system.

SP2 is considered a newer operating system...so if you are trying to install a XP SP1 disk on a computer that has SP2 you will get that error. If you remove all service packs you will be able to use the disk you have without removing the old operating system.
