your closer to wild time  dave woods do you know him. mine is from a friend that runs at auto city he gets it from saginaw . i can find out the name . im using 1-5/8 134 wall for the cage and 1-3/4 x 134 wall for the cradle if you need daves # i got it .

Dom is very expensive tubing, there have been countless threads on the use of dom or schedule 40 pipe. Test have proved that dom is slightly stronger, but not by a lot. I use sch pipe for everything except where a precise id is needed, such as trailing arms where your welding bung inserts in. theres all diff thickness sch pipes for strength issues also.

Oh, and as for where its bought, any big steel supplier should get it. Just a fyi, a 22' stick of 1.5" 3/16 wall tube is just under $200 if I remember right.

thats some pretty darn thin wall.....  I'd say at the VERY least  .125 wall    16ga is sheet metal thickness....    i'd lean more towards .250 wall   If its worth building its worth overbuilding!

which is better hot rolled or cold rolled steel

16ga is way too thin. and as for hot or cold rolled, strength isnt a big issue between the two, but cold rolled is stronger. the difference is finish. cold rolled is nice clean smooth steel (covered in an oil bath) where hot rolled is a scaley covered steel. for frame material, i would use at least .250 wall as said above, .188 at min. and id go with a  rectangle tube for flex and strength.

cumminsmatt98,  i belive you need to have a class in metalurgy, what you are descibing is a P&O plate/sheet. if you look closly at 1018 cold rolled you will still see the mill scale on it, its just compresed into the surface when the stock was cold formed to produce said product from hot rolled stock.
On the .250 wall stock, you are smoking something. i got told that my .188 2x4 tube was overkill by people that have been building monster trucks for years. they actualy said that 2x3 .125wall was more than heavy enogh. meents new truck is only 2" dia tube .188 wall.

close, its 2x2 box tubing with a 3/16th wall thickness, to convert it into a decimal all ya gotta do is divide the top number by the bottom number.
