A 350 that ended up being a 305.

I am sure that I am not the only one that this happened to.  But I got a jeep with a "350", all stock but a 350.  So I get it home, put a intake, cam, timing gears, figured berrings won't hurt. Decided i'd run the casting numbers, and engine id numbers.  I am the proud owner of a 83-85 camaro 305.  Still got a good deal on it, but dang I was bummed.  So now I look for a 350.

Same thing happend with me but it was a built 305 and pushed like a 350 so no complaints

It's probably a mental thing.  I gotta go with the no replacement for displacement.  Raised around old school guys.

At least it sounds good.  Told my wife we will just have to leave it idle on the trailer.

You gotta learn from your mistakes,....we all make them.  

Just remember next time to run the block numbers 1st to make sure.


And a 305 isnt a bad motor.................hell I'd take that over the AMC 6 banger or 4 banger that was in it any day!!

at least 305's are reliable long lived motors.....

got a 305 in my wood hualer 35s 4.10s I have beat it and it wont die 3 years of 5000rpms+ I have been trying to kill it for over a year so I can put my new 350 in it and it wont die so it looks like its gunna be around for a few years more! lol  305 are good little motors and in a jeep it should be a blast!

i have a built one 488 lift cam 194 heads ported and polished and shaved it runs real good smallest motor in my class at the mud drags i run modified class every one is dum founed by the way it runs

I had no complaints with my 305... just the th350's it kept ripping apart lol
