not a fender bender....

well, i drive 46 miles one way to work, and usually dont get on my way home till 1am or so. the other night, i was driving home, just like every other night when all of a sudden 6 deer were right in the middle of the highway. the spot where they were was 3 lanes on each side, and usually pretty busy. obviously this night there wasnt too many people on the road. i was going 75mph and all of them got out of the way except the biggest one. i hit him broad side and he went about 100 yards before finally stopping on the side of the road. the most messed up part is that the collision didnt kill him, although it did manage to break all of his legs. down here in west virginia, there is a courtesy patrol that helps out motorists that run out of gas and such. he just happened to have been passing by 5 minutes after i hit the deer and stopped to call me a tow truck and such. this guy was probably 6' and 230lbs, and im 6'2" and 260lbs and it was all him and i could to do put this deer in my truck. im guessing he weighed close to 300lbs and he was a 3 point. anyways, he didnt mess up my fenders at all somehow. not even a scratch, but the grille was gone, along with all the lights except the drivers side headlight. the hood was crinkled up pretty bad, the ac condenser was split in half, the radiator was shot, the core support was destroyed, and im not sure if it was because of the collision or not, but the water pump started leaking so i had to change that out, lol. i found a guy that had a core support and a hood for sale for $100. he also gave me a set of headlights. i had a friend come over from work to help me swap everything out and we got it all done in about 4 hours. the truck was only down for a matter of 24 hours and im back to driving my 46 mile trip every day. i never much of a chevy guy, but buying this truck was one of the best things ive ever done. im pretty damn impressed....here is the picture i took of the truck before i did any work to it, and another pic of the culprit that caused the whole situation...

that s crazy i had a red 93 truck did the same thing never touched the fenders  just everything in between   put a new grill in it and hit another deer a wweek later  man that sucked  glad it worked out for ya and all was good

well...after $800 in tow bills, rental truck, parts and other costs, this is what it looks like. all thats left is to paint the hood and attempt to straighten out a few body lines, but im not too worried about that stuff right away. the only issue that i have is one of the running lights isn't working correctly. im figuring it might be a ground tho.
