ok guys i am installing rear disc brakes on the rig this winter and since its never had rear brakes period since i have owned it there is no proportioning valve in the truck. this truck is a off road only rig 1 ton axles 44's. i want them to work right and dont want to cut corners but in the same time i dont wanna buy gear i dont need. i will be putting the weld on brackets that fit the front discs and rotors from a k20 on. so my question is do i need a proportioning valve? the adjustable one from summit? also any other tips or tricks would be appreciated for this job. thanx in advance for everyones input.     a=f  GotMud?  a=f

Proportioning valve is not needed for off road, you will get a true 50/50 braking ratio. The valve is only meant to increase the braking power on the front vs the rear for better drive-ability on the road.

Take it out and you will get more pressure to the rear wheels also, which disc brakes require more pressure to stop in the same distance to begin with.

The other original use for the valve was as a safety to turn on a single "BRAKE" warning light should the front or rear brake system lose pressure.
