I have a '99 Subaru Impreza L wagon with a 2.2L and an automatic transmission. The car has plenty of battery life but will not start, not even turn over. through talking to people I have come to the conclusion that it might be the "Neutral Switch". In this car the neutral switch is actually like a gear indicator, the shift linkage connects to it and it tells the ECU what gear the car is in. I can get the part to fix it but right now the car is in the parking lot of my complex and everything is covered in snow and ice. The maintenance people want me to move it so they can plow but I can't get it started. I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience with Subaru's and maybe if anyone knew of a way to "trick" the car into starting??? If I can't get it moved soon they're going to tow it. PLEASE HELP!

Yes I tried to start it in neutral, it didn't work.

I don't know how to bypass it, do you?

I bought the new neutral switch, $83.46 from the dealership. The guy there told me to put a test light on the little wire that goes to the starter and have someone hold the key in the start position, if the light comes on the starter is fine if it doesn't the sterter is junk and to return the switch.

Sapose to be like 6 degrees outside and windy tomorrow and I'll be out there trying to fix this thing, wish me luck.
