I'm going to look at a 460 Saturday and haven't been able to find a good website with block and head numbers. The guy doesn't have the motor at his house so he can't give me the numbers till I go look at it. He says its out of a 1973 Lincoln.  Anything to look for besides the usual? I don't know squat about fords. Thanks for any advice.

the blocks dont have much difference the newer ones can be stroked more the heads are what you need to do some looking for. d0ve heads are some of the best c9 heads are good to. hope this helps ya.

OK thanks I guess how can I tell that it really is a 460? I'm a Chevy guy and this is my first ford bought a 67 cougar this last summer and I have no idea how to tell the difference in ford motors. If you put a 400m in front of me and said its a 460 I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

unless you have internet access when you look at it you kinda cant. youd have to run the numbers. but the only difference between a 429 and a 460 is the crank so if your just looking at a block you wont have any issues.

Yes I have internet on my phone and I am just looking for a good core motor. Are there any issues to look for on the 460s?

use a block between 1979  and  1985

D9  to  a  E5  that will be on the block  where the starter would go.

they are stronger have more ribbing and can be stroked more easily from what i understand.

Well this 460 is missing carb and oil pan and he is only asking $200 haven't been able to find one cheaper. I think a 450hp 460 in a lightweight cougar would be good enough. A 557 would be awesome but can't afford that.

just do lots of research and buy th parts that will get you the best bang for your buck. 30 over some d0ve heads with a valve job an edlebrock performer 460 intake and 750 carb should get you the numbers you are looking for.

Everything I can find says those are easy numbers for the 460. Its pretty amazing what these motors do with a good set of heads

yes they are easy to bring power out of to a certin point then its time to break out the check book. but with a set of flat tops a valve job intake and carb and you will make what you are looking for.
