ford dana 44 shafts?

will shafts out of a 79 3/4 ton dana 44 hp fit in a 1/2 ton coil spring dana 44?are they any stronger? fist run on the new axle in the ranger and i broke every shaft in the front end!

looks like weak u joints and now you got damage      you didnt break the shaft. looks like  your joint did

i think a chevy short shaft will fit into the ford  short shaft also   like 1/2 " differents but you got 2" of spline shaft anyways   on the older leaf spring  just match them up for length  im not a ford guy  good luck

What is a good ujoint that would hold up better then these autozone ones?

Ive never had a problem with Precision U joints... the non-greasable ones don't have grease passages drilled threw them.. stronger than the greasable ones.

should be parts master (made by precision) part number 371 for the non greasable dana 44 joints.

with front end welded up as soon as you break one side the other will break. its not the u joint breaking its metal at end of the axle is not thick enough to hold. so mike if don't want break axles put open case back in it or put a posi it, or after market shafts.

my truck has a dana 44 from a '78. you can use 3/4 ton shafts.
but there the same as a 1/2 ton not much different.

i went with chromemoly shafts and a dana spicer ujoints (760X) non greaseable with full circle snapring.

you can buy a kit from broncograveyard. under $600 for both sides. (comes with ujoints)

they work pretty good. i have 5.14 gears with a spool.
