Upright Headers and Mud

Ok guys I really like running my uprights but hate all the mud that come's in the 2 big holes in my hood. I had to make them kind of big because I run flapper and had to have the clearance to open the hood.

Was thinking about cutting the headers where they go through the hood and wielding the tops to the hood so when I closed the hood they would sit on top of the other half..

What do you guys do?

im in the same boat your in i don't like mud and water getting down in my motor i was thinking about putting them black bristle things you put at the bottom of a door around the holes but finding longer ones see if they burn up or if they would hold up im just not sure where to find them at

What about cutting the headers down so that only the flapper sticks outta the hood? Then you only need a hole big enough to fit over the flapper. I always liked it when the uprights dont stick way up outta the hood

If it bothers you, you could just weld some round paper plate size pieces of sheet metal around your headers so there isn't a gap when the hood shuts, you know?

the best way is like you said in the first post  cut and flange them is the tightest your going to get  i did a pie pan under the hood 3" hole to catch the water and then run it off 1 way

Go faster stay on top of the mud then you won't have to worry about it lol

i think the bristle idea is good but i'm pretty sure they'd melt.  i thought about some type of heat resist material and fashion a boot/sleeve to cover the header to hood area. make sense to anyone?

I just cut the hole big enough to fit header through. To open the hood I just pull the flappers off. I leave them little loose
Also mine have been cut down 6" too

tried bristles but they did melt. I tried a piece from one of them high temp silicone baking pans it worked good but eventually tore from stretching over the uprites. Im fabbing up what Big Dog said but using pizza pans i got laying around. Im making them removable from the uprites tho

They make metal bristles.  Use them in manufacturing plants to keep weld slag off slide rails.

Just get a large stack and weld it to the hood and put the flapper on the stack. The header goes through the stack only an inch or so above the hood and the stack and flapper keeps the mud and water off the engine. That way you can just pop the hood. And not have to mess with the uprights.

Been thinking that would be the best way to go!!!
