how to prevent too much draw from battery?

i have a newer fuel pump thats is 9 amp so how do i prevent it from drawing too much juice?  is 9  too much ? thanks in advance

Amps are a measure of power used over a given period of time, usually a hour.  9 is nothing. If your worked about getting that much power back there use a solenoid

If you are trying to keep pump life to a max, run a regulator with a return line. Keep the reg at about 6psi.

When you don't have a return and you just dead head the pump, puts a strain on it. Also running too high psi makes the pump heat up and eventually burn out.
