I use a 3 inch strap in my stock S10 blazer. It's rated for 27,000
and a 6 inch one for my burbans rated for 55,000
They seem to work just fine.

get 6, you can never have a towstrap that is 'too strong'
Drive hard and get dirty!

The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, "I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it."

Blazin40s

then should i use a 4 inch????

Ive gotten some NASTY stucks out with my 4" and quite a few of them.....  In my opinion a 4 in is a safe bet for a s-series / mild jeep sized rig.

Better to have a broken strap flying,  than your pull points.

I guess you guys dont drive like me.........  I will use all 30 ft of my 6 in to pull someone out not to say I pull like that everytime....... give me your 4in and I'll snap it for ya..... I'm not trying to be an a$$hole I just dont trust any strap my less than a 55,000 lb rating.

Yes I have seen someone hit with a strap.......up close!!!!!!!  Benefit bog a few years ago.

A few of you that know me have seen some stucks ive hooked to and never broke my 4" Thats all im saying.  Maybe your pulling to hard.

K-5 to the frame one 44s in Vinces Mud..........dead.............my 4" worked then.

Dont hit the strap so hard.......you dont need to back bumper to bumper "every" time.

always try small tugs first. if they move at all I keep doing small tugs. it take a little longer, but is safer.

we all have differnt thoughts on this,    ill olney like to use  a 6 inch strap myself, if your helping out a friend  from a stuck , you'll do what ever it takes. i think everyone should think safty frist.

I try to be as safe a possible but sometime you have to push the limits! and I feel 4in straps are unsafe for me to use...... but thats me if you like them keep on using them!

I dont use a tow strap ,I uae a nylon rope that is used in West Virginia to hold fully loaded coal barges on the side of the river. So far it has never broken even when we hooked it to a dump truck to pull out a full size chevy with 40's on it cause every one else was breaking every strap they could find.

Something I have not noticed in this thread is length.
I believe the longer the better in any size.
A long 6" strap would stretch enough for light trucks if it is long enough.
A long 4" strap would hold up better than a short oneĀ  by having more room to
stretch and if you need more strength you can double it.
I stretch carpet every day and you can tear a short piece of carpet easily but a long piece
is nearly impossible as it takes a lot more energy to stretch the entire length.
The longer the strap the more energy it will store.

Just my 2 cents

on harder pulls I use longer straps. I have noticed it works better

I use a 6 inch by 40'.  I  also have use a pulley and a rope if I was helping someone out and all I had was my daily drive.  Hook the pulley to the tow point on the stuck truck and one end around a tree or to another truck and the other end to the one doing the pulling and you would be surprized at what you can get out abd what little effort it took.
