What kind of RPM  do you want ?          6,000, 7,000, 8,000 ????

That will make a big difference in what components you choose.   6,000 you can use stock crank, rods Etc..  over that you have to start upgrading to better crank and rods..................79' chevy heads arent gonna do ya much justice either if ya want to hit high R's.  Your looking at least camel backs or Vortec's  or an aftermarket head... Iron eagle Etc. All depends on how much $$$$
you want to spend.  The overbore size isnt going to make any difference on Rpm range, so just have it bored enough to clean up cylinders, probably .030" over.  Your camshaft will determine the Rpm range you want so once you figure that out you can pick the right cam.  Hope this helps get ya started.

go afr heads. the last heads youll ever buy. afr's outflow, outperform and are already cnc'ed the best you can get it. my dad told his neighbors engine builder to get afrs for his 540 in a camaro. the dude called afr and they told him what head he needed. he asked if he could port them to flow more. they said if he wanted to screw up a head go screw up someone elses. they are already cnc'ed to flow the most. [/rant]

anyways, call them up and ask them. tell them what your using it for and all your other parts.

hope that helps ya

im still a lil new to building engines also  but  i  you should pick  the cam first.  pick the one in the rpm range you wanna twist  then get all the other parts to match it.   anyone correct me if im wrong tho  i dont wanna point someone i the wrong direction
