Teens caught toilet-papering house, boy shot




SOLON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) -- A group of four teens were toilet-papering a home early Sunday morning when the home's owner woke up and fired shots. A 14-year-old boy was hit in the chest, stomach and leg with shotgun pellets.

The incident happened in the 900 block of Sherwin St. NE in Solon Twp at 1 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say four teen boys were T.P'ing around the resident's home. The owner was awakened and saw the teen in his back yard. The man thought the teens were breaking into his garage and fired shots using a shotgun.

The 14-year-old Cedar Springs boy was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No arrests were made. The case has been forwarded to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office.

what if it was your kid bein shot?
ive never tee peed anyone, but shooting seems kinda harsh...
i know my wife did some tp 'n in the 80s around holloween time.... times have really changed since then i guess, shoot 1st & ask questions later... good thing they didnt have a can of shaving creme, dude mighta thought it was a rocket launcher,


anything is replaceable, thats what insurence is for,
to shoot someone or to take a life seems kinda permanent
, what if it was your daughter out with some girlfriends tee p'n a x friends house
daughter says shes stayin at janes house & they go out & tee pee neighbors house & gets shot
something to think about huh?

I understand your opinion, im sure it was probly a frightening thing for the parents to get that phone call, as it would be for me if it were my child, but what if they were actually attempting to rob this guy and when he steped to his door they had guns and fired at him?times have changed alot and kids do carry guns, I feel for any parent who gets a call telling them that there child has been shot, even if the child is gonna be ok, either way it is'nt a call I'd want to get, but I do feel a person should have the right to protect there property and in todays times it could mean shoot or be shot.

At 1:00 in the morning, at any distance, you can't know if he had a gun or not. 14 or not, tresspassing or not, that's a risk you take if you want to break the law. You can bet if I catch someone prowling around my house at 1:00 in the morning they're gonna get the shot out of them. Now, with that said , my shotgun's loaded with a half charge of powder and rock salt but the third round is 00 buck. I say kudos to dude for standing up and defending his property! If more people took his attitude the country wouldn't be full of pushovers and criminals would think twice before breaking the law!

i guess so, people precious stuff is more precious than life... just pray its not your kids doin the prank of teep'n & gettin shot... then shoe would be other foot... JMO i wouldnt be able to sleep if i shot a 14 yr old over a prank... nothing i have is worth keepin that much... im insured & again its JMO

I see your point BD but think of it this way. How would you feel if you got shot dead in your own house by a burglar you just hollered at because you thought they were a kid? What if you had a chance to defend yourself but didn't?

1st things 1st, call 911 & let my dog out & then maybe shoot in the air.. i live in one of the worse neighborhoods in flint... i just know i couldnt live with myself shooting a kid... i am armed with a dog , a phone & a baseball bat.......
i lock my doors at night , if you are in my house, thats a whole diffent ballgame,(call a coroner,) but someone out in my yard, im gonna call the law... let them shoot a kid for tee p'n , or stealing or trespassing

thats not right, talk about shoot first then ask questions, people watch too much tv. I woulda called the po's, then let my dog out even tho she a puzzy n woulda ran away... n if i had a gun, i wouldnt even shoot up in the air cause gravity still exists... that bullets coming down somewhere.. hopefully someones not standing in that place.

but on second thought... i dont really have anything worth stealing... soo yeah...

I've put up motion sensor lights on the front, side, and back of my house and on my shed. Come in my yard at night and it lights up like a christmas tree.

Whatever happened to kids being kids , weve all done stupid stuff, but he had to realize what they were doin and shooting them is not the rite answer, wish we could turn the clock back to yesterdays morals and values that got this country started in the first place, whats next execution for j-walking. times sure have changed alot in my 36 yrs on this earth.

 had it hapind to me grabed the gun and let the dog out,  kids wher back over the fence faster than i could load my gun,was only plang on shooting if fierd apon
