ALSO.... i believe technically you need one chain and one binder on all four corners of the vehicle... but thats just me, i use my straps.. to hold down my ramps or coolers, just paranoid that they will stretch and come lose

if i remember its all 4 corners and crossed by DOT standards...

note:
if you dont have straps or chains, what also works great is a piece of bubble gum under each tire.

depends on what your hauling and the weight
law stipulates that you must fasten the object in such a fashion that in the event of a
mechanical failure of the fastening device (broken chain, strap etc...) the object will remain
securely fastened.

basically you need at least 3 chains, each one requires a binder, you shouldnt wrap
excess chain around the binder to prevent it from poppin open (DOT frowns on it)

Cross chaining  technique ( TOMAC ) is a good rule of thumb but not required
and yes,, all 4 corners are supposed to be fastened.. but most people I see don't do it,
perfect reason to get pulled over by a bored cop.
in the event of an accident.. you can bet that a good lawyer would use it to the hilt.

Straps must be free of damage, fraying, cuts and are required to have the load rating printed on it for any load in excess of 10k
once again at least 3 straps.. yada yada yada

I use 4 2" rachet straps, I feel there easier to use and less likely to come loose while traveling down the road.

straps I only use 2 or 3 on in front and 2 on rear or 1 front 1 rear(if I am only hualing to a short bogg)

bigdawg41

i use 3/8 grade 70 transport chains and ratcheting binders.

steve

i use 4 straps one each corner. but the most disturbing thing i see at every event is that someone will have there load secured properly to a inaddequate tow vehicle ie. a half ton truck towing a trailer loaded heavily, trucks all have towing capasitys many ignore them safty, safty,SAFTY people

RIP_K52007

yeah.. very unsafe.. i know i need trailer brakes.. ever since i hooked 2600lb to the back of my s10 and tried to stop on dirt i relized how much trailer brakes help!

gotta remember on most pickups 70% of your stopping power is to the front tires, which leaves only 30% for your rear tires.. (older trucks of course) they had proportioning valves but weather or not they worked is a differnt story.

I use Straps on cars, prefer chains on truck, ....1 chain to the rear axle, 2 chains on front each with a binder.I have had straps loosen up before.

all it takes is one bad bump.... i use chains on the back with binders locked and straps up front (3inch) with a light chain just because lol

i ALWAYS binder the rear, to keep it from rolling foward if you do have to stop fast.....

usually 2 straps on front of frame to keep it from goin backward.. and usually 1 or 2 to compress suspension slighly.

Marion3

yeah i think im gunna use 2 binders in the front on each shackle, and one on the rear over both

duel1985

homewrecker john

ok this i gotta post in this one....ive used both a my full size stepper...when i went down to indiana to trade it off i used straps front and rear....somebody pulled out in front of me and I had to stomp on the brakes...the rear straps came loose and the truck come off the front of the trailer....what a mess..lucky it didnt hit my dd because the pig got hung up in the tongue of the trailer...i will never use straps again....i live the security of the binders and chain..i also use a pipe to close my binders that way i can get them super retarded tight....just my 2 cents!!

Squirell

when i use chains i use them ratcheting binders way easier than the other type

THAT MUDFIT GUY

we just had a big meeting about this at work earlier this yr  your supposed to have a chain and binder (ratchet type are the prefered ones) on each corner of your vehicle  and if your hauling equipment like backhoe excavator etc you supposed to have the bucket secured with another chain front bucket and back and the outriggers are supposed to have a chain between them to hold them from falling  tha being said

I USE 5 STRAPS    2 FRONT  2 BACK  AND 1 ON THE CROSS MEMBER  LOL   ASK DERIK HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO STRAP A TRUCK  LMAO

got straps, but use chains, and binders.and put a lock on the binders handle,to keep it from coming undone.

Seen a guy using 2 straps and the rear one ripped. The rig was partially parked on his tow rig.  The trailor jack went through the trans and it was not a good day for him.
