alright  i dont want any arguing on this i just want to know.   alright i have some buddies that every smallbock they pick up i hear oh i ran the #s its a vette motor when really all they did was saw 010 as the last three #s.  i would like to know what the diff is other than a 2.02 head even though non thiers had them heads.  so what makes these so wanted cause to me i dont care if it came out of a bus a vette or the junk yard

if you go to the sites that have #s for blocks and heads it will give you al ist of vehicles that came with that motor and just because it COULD have come with it in a vette ppl automatically assume that it is a vette motor very popular misconception alot of motors were offered in the  corvette and those same motors were also put in other vehicles so just because it has that casting # doesnt mean that it came in a vette  hope this helps  and i could be wrong but that is how it was explained to me  if im wrong im sorry   Derek

i got a 69 vette motor on my frame. when i looked up the casting numbers, it said vette/truck. i talked to a few ppl about it, and they said they were the same block, just 4 bolt mains

then look up the #s on the front of moter then the #s on the heads lot of them used same block different heads, cam, engine brackes most vettes have alternator on drivers side   we got a 79 vette

If the motor came out of an older Vette then it will break down alot and cost twice as much to fix because it say Corvette on the valve covers.

nope, i have an 010 2 bolt in my garage and an 010 4bolt

i think it had something to do with tin being mixed into the cast iron block, trying to lighten it up.. but dont quote me on that.

I am about 80% sure that the only real differences are heads and internals.  Some motors may have forged steel cranks, forged/high compression pistions, good cams, etc.  I've never heard the high performance crowd lust after a special Corvette block because it was lighter or stronger than a conventional block.

I had a 1971 Corvette that I rebuilt the motor.  I thought I had something special but when I tore it apart I found a 2 bolt block, cast crank, and cast pistons.  After some research I found that not all Corvette motors are killers and that many of them pretty much had the same motor as other GM cars with fancy valve covers and a different water pump.

Funny you bring up the "vette" motor thing. Im always joking with the guy down the street about this very same subject. Seems like everything we find for sale has a vette motor in it. A friend of mine had this so called "vette" motor in his garage he was always yappin about and it turned out to be a 305 or something like that.
