i am adding 4 6inch lights to the headache rack above the cab and 2 4x6inch lights on either side of the winch, and i need to know how to wire another battery into my alternator to power all of my lights and winch

free2blaze

would'nt you need a duel battery isolater?

free2blaze

google duel battery isolation, dont just wire two batteries togather without reading into it.

TBigLug

Nope, all of mine have been positive to positive and negetive to ground. Make sure the batteries are both in the same condition otherwise one will want to drain the other.

i'm thinking of doing the same. but i dont think i will run them in series. i think i'm just going to run one to the winch and had it wired to the alt. and then another one wired to motor. that way the winch can only drain one battery. but the winch co. recommends a 650 cca or higher and i have a 540cca batt. so i might have to do that.

If you get a dual battery isolator like blaze was suggesting, you can switch it from running on one battery most of the time then two two batteries only when you're winching. For bc, running off road lights, he wouldn't need an isolator for that.

Personally I would just upgrade the alternator and run one good battery. I got a side post/top post combo battery and when or if I get a winch I will use the side post for my truck and the top post for my winch.

Crazymays77

i cant upgrade the alt they only make one for the trackers. unless i can a repair shop to boost them. i will find out today i have to get some starters and alts rebuilt anyways

Crazymays77

i dont think a 55 amp alt will run the motor and winch and charge the batt

Bo Duke

well the logic i got out of it is that two is beter thatn one and its cheper to by two of the self alts than one high end one. also the two factory alts give you more power at idal than one high end alt

I dont know but I do know that is a kick ass idea. You would never be stranded because of a bad alternator either because if one goes bad you still would have a working alt to get you home. I wish I could find out how he wired them?
