So my saftey switch is shot and i want to by pass it .. can anyone help me out here?

Crazymays77

yes but need more info on  jeep. what tranny do you have. also is this your dd or wheeler?

JaiDeeEmm

Its just the wheeler,  im not so sure what trans its got. Im pretty sure there is two auto trannys for that year.  hmmm if i take a picture will it help anyone

Crazymays77

no need just look on the right side of the tranny. if there is a set of wires going into a triangle looking box then you have a 4 speed and that can be cleaned out and that might be the problem. check this site out and read it. it shows you what the switch looks like and how to take it apart and clean it. if you have the 3 speed then just bypass it. let me know which one you have then i can help you.

JaiDeeEmm

i have the four speed. Looks like ill be taking it apart and cleaning it. THANK YOU!

Crazymays77

ok if that doesnt work then i can help you bypass it. your not far from me so it would be better to stop by and show you. easier then trying to expain it.

the thing is so gummed up on the inside its unbelievable..   Half the threads on the arm that hold the nut in place broke off. :(     so does your way of bypassing it need to half a complete unit?

Crazymays77

not sure mine is still there i didnt feel like cleaning it out since its a wheeler. we can just try it. put it back together and on the tranny then i will come down when i can. pm me your address and number.

JaiDeeEmm

Well i guess i have to add. I will be road driving this on weekends.  I have read into it a bit and i have found you can connect  pins b and c together  and it will work. But it is also saying that the switch has more functions than just being a neutral safety switch..

JaiDeeEmm

So what im seeing i might be better off getting a junkyard one and cleaning it. ?

Crazymays77

really i didnt know what. what i did is connect b and c together on the side before the connector then plugged it back in. i dont know if that will work since your is broke
just try it. u can bypass it either way but just becareful when you start it.

Crazymays77

yeah you can do that. dont buy a new one there 240 bucks

JaiDeeEmm

Ill see how much the local junkyard wants for one.. I guess theres a yard around here with about 100 cherokees. Parts have to be cheap?  Ill even take it apart and clean the new ( used one ) just to be safe..

one thing i just read about. My reverse lights dont work and that is another symptom of the NSS

Anyways. If i need any help ill let you know.. Unless you want to help put floor pans in on my jeep when it gets a little warmer ? haha

Crazymays77

i might be able to help. check with s&s auto there on field rd.

JaiDeeEmm

exactly where i was going to go. Thats within 5 miles of me .  You guys on this site are awesome glad i joined

Crazymays77

no prob thats what we do. while your there check and see if they had manual doors for a 88 xj 2door. i have the power windows and i hate them. dont work that good. if you can get a price too. thanks

JaiDeeEmm
