well i am not sure if my pump is bad or not but the jeep wont start. 94 cherokee 4.0. it stalled out when i was trying to back into my drive way and wouldnt fire then i let it sit for like ten minutes and it fired back up so i backed it into my drive way and let it run for a bit.  after about ten minutes it shut down and wouldnt re fire. you can hear the fuel pump ticking (not the typical humming). well the fuse or what ever thats in the engine bay is also ticking along with the pump. could it be the pump or the fuse?

If I had a choice between pump or fuse  I would try the fuse first it's cheaper.  I would also check the fuel filter if it's clogged it would cause it to stall and put one hell of a drag on the pump.
usually when a fuel pump fuse goes out it just goes.  The pump could be getting weak but, I would check the filter and possibly the injectors.

I would check in this order.
    1.  check fuel filter
    2.  check fuel pressure
    3.  check fuel injectors

well  the fuel filter in jeeps are in the damn fuel tank and part of the fuel pump and sending unit. i was thinking of that to. the injectors would make sense since i had just replaced the engine maybe i damaged  one or something. and the jeep did stall a few times before it finally went by by and had a noticable lag and delay for a while so. ill dig into this more when its not flippin snowing outside.   ==roll

Try the coil.  I had the same thing happen about once a year in my wrangler, until I relocated the coil.

rebelryder

well changed the relay and the fuel filter no luck. put a new coil in no luck. time to go to the fuel pump

run a wire from the batt to a toggle then to the fuel pump see what that does first.

rebelryder

well i ran a toggle and wire to it and still nothing. still clicks and what not. i am getting fuel to the fuel rail(pulled the line off) but it wont fire.

thats what mine was doing i had to bypass the fuel relay. thats what i was telling u the other day. something in the wiring is not letting the injectors fire. bypass the relay and they will work again.

rebelryder

ok ill have to try that
