CONSIDERING THE RUST THIS TRUCK HAD YOU SURE HAVE IT LOOKING GOOD. ;D  applaudd I JUST PICKED UP A WIRE WELDER AND WILL BE LEARNING TO FIX SOME PANELS SOON.

Plop

Thanks, its really styarting to look like a jeep again.

I had to learn to weld on my own, thats probably why its taking so long for me to get the welds to look good. My dad said he would teach me how to do it since hes a welder/fabricator but he never got to it.

Nice start keep an eye on the steering box mounts. They are prone to rust also, I suggest you reinforce it now before it goes bad. Ask me how I know. Put a 1/4" fishplate over the whole frame side with some plug welds. All the way up to the shackle mount.  They all go bad here sooner than later...

In the long run it will save your frame. The one I got was real bad now better than new.
Just cut your tube & insert the inner back to the rear of the shock mount. Pound it in with a 30# sledge.
Cut in a relief on each side for plug welds & good to go..

Get yours reinforced before it gets this bad. I got it for parts now it drives like new.

Now onto the floor & side rust issues...

Just needs a little grinding & she was all set for a fish plate, set it up for a 5" front stretch  Rear will be next 8"
I will have to make a build thread.

I like the progress looks like a Little Heep quilt

I figured I would make a jeep the way I want this time so I know whats whats instead of just buying one pre-done. I costs more but it just turns out so much better doing it yourself. I am happy with it. and hopfully I will be able to afford a lift and be able to go up to the dunes next summer.

I took some ideas from the last jeep and used it on this one and did a little modification to the ideas.

I got some of teh back cleaned up and painted. I got the new gate on and did it in black and spayed some bedliner on the bottom portion of it. And yes I am not leaving that hole on the back I just wanted to get rid of all the green.

decent up date, I just put a deposit on a 87 YJ that I am picking up tomorrow. Its got a new 4" lift, new 31" M/T tires body looks extremly good except for one spot at the drivers rear corner, which is banged up. So I am going to pilage pretty much everything. Gonna pick and choose through both jeeps to get the best parts. Not sure which frame I am going to use. As you can see by the pics the parts jeep has no engine/trans (used to be 4.2)

sanddude

Look's like a nice project jeep...Wish I could find a deal like that.

I know its kinda worthless without pics, but I got some TJ Flares to work with. Sold a few things and working on selling other stuff. And temporarily put the 31" BFG M/T's n black cragars on the grey jeep. It looks sexy now, and not retarded looking. So it will do a little better on T-Day with MT's

The plans for the new Jeep is to get the body work all smooth; this one is nicer to work with since It has pretty much NO RUST and one smallish area where there is a dent. I am gonna buy a DA-Sander to start cleaning the parts up. I want to do things right and the way I want on this one, not to just get it done and be alright. I am going to throw the 1" body lift on this one and put some 35's on and if there isnt enough room I am going to throw a set of 1" shackles on.

I am doing a CJ [jeep] tailgate and some round LED Tail lights. I Want to do some Dick Cepek rims but they're too common lately. I am going to take parts from the grey jeep and put it on the red one, take the motor/trans/case/electrical and dash out of the grey and into the red. I am going to get it painted a green like the new beetles are, I like the color

burl

you wanna sell the a/ts that you had on the grey jeep before?
==rf I Draw The line For The Shear Trill Of Crossing IT! ==rf

Plop

Yea I can sell em. I will get tread depth to distinguish how much they should be within reason.

burl

ok sounds good...take trades? if not not a big deal

Got a teaser

I got a Sterling 10.20 from a F250 and I will be looking for a D60 front axle out of a F350 which will take a while. I will be cleaning this up and preping it to go under the red Jeep shortly.

another update: I got an engine hoist, so I will be working on swapping the engine and all the stuff I am going to keep. I will be doing small stuff to clean up and fix while the engine is out of the vehicle. I will be doing the rear main seal, the slave cylinder, the clutch, and paint the things that I can.

Plop

Well, today I pulled the roll bar out of the tub adn found a trouble spot. It was completly rotten under te roll bar plate. So I have to get a piece of 3?16" steel to fix that.

I am going to pull the front clip tomorrow and anything in the engine compartment that I dont need, and If I get to it, pull the dash and all the electrical.

And I decided that I am not going to paint it until after the motor goes in, but I may rattle can the firewall black while everything is out.
