I beams a stronger in my opinon.....I know this is going to cause a poo storm. Nascar uses I beams for endurance and alot more revs for longers.
H beams are used for drag racing when you shoot the Nos to it or run major boost.. I guess its your call lol

with the strength comes wieght. unless your running 1000+ hp you dont need them. i dont care what anybody says reallistically if your making 1000+ hp (AT THE GROUND not the crank) your engine is getting rebuilt every few passes.

ill clarify......in a small block.. dunno much about big blocks.
i do know nascar runs small blocks 750-800hp on I beams, drag racing the high end teams use big blocks and H beams

most h beam rod are rated 800 hp to 1000 hp and the I beam rod is rated 600 hp  but they do make Ibeams rods rated to 1200 hp very price rods  i would have to say h beam .

have 5.7 inch H beams for my 406, 6 inch would put the wrist pin in the middle of the oil ring on the piston, so each length has their place. i beams if re worked properly will be more than sufficent in any application your LIKELY to encounter, the H beams are intended for drag race, but when put in a street motor are over kill, but then your that much less likely to everbreak one. the only drawback with h beams is the price over i beams. i've used both, i like both, when planned out and kept within their intended paramaters each will last a long time. the h beams are kinda just for a lil mor epeace of mind. but gm and ford been using i beams for a hundred years too, so don't just dismiss em

Bushed rods allow the piston pin to move in the end of the rod, pressed are as the name inplys a pressed fit. Floating pins use a clip to keep the pin from coming out, and if that clip ever fails you can count on majior engine damage, with the pressed fit there's now way the pin is going to come out which is why as far as I know every OEM uses them.

With all all that said when I built my 383 I installed Scat Ibeam bushed rods, they were rated for more power than I intended on making and weighed less than a comparable Hbeam.

you can only run hi or low beam.


but if you do run Hi beams make sure to turn them down for oncoming traffic.

I running I beam rods, 6" in my 388 stroker, turning 7000rpm and over 500hp
6" rod is the way to go forshure
I beam rods are strong
H beam rods are stronger but heavier

I run a polished I beam with the pro series arp bolts ( bolts are generally the weak point) in a lot of engines we have seen come apart. With the stress relieved I beam makes them a little stonger and yup lighter we turn 8300 rpm in a methanol blown BBC its ben together for over 3 years now. Other than a set of head gaskets

I like h beams, but I just run a heavy i beam. I'll do like 6800-7000 on a launch. Blown bbc


The I use the same brand of rods as the drag boat. "Howard" but I run a bit longer rod. I use a 6.385" and the drag boat has a 16-71blower 500" alcohal Chevy turning like 2000hp.  And they are i beams.

A lot of people have a lot of different theories on a piston failure. IMO it's in the wrist pin, or the bolts.

Either way you go, just get quality parts and u will be happy.

Btw. H beams make a lot of torque, due to their weight. Our 653 merlin has h beams and that engine is pretty square (1000hp/1000ft lbs)
