buddy of mine is running
600hp bbc / th400 w/ 3000 stall /205 / 44s cut haugs / 1 tons w/4:10s
he keeps smoken his trans
thinking about going 5:13 gears, but is that too much gear for his combo? does he have to much stall?
just seeing what WGM thinks he should do, thanks

4-play

He needs a good trans....I got 700hp on my 400 and never had a problem.
Get a trans guy and never build it again

betterbeaters

whats his rpm range?  I would think 4.88s or 5.13 would be a good idea. but he really needs to have a good trans guy build him one! I have run 350ths on my 500 hp  motors with no problems

Nothing like 600hp to find your weakest link.

stall it too big
High stall will make your transmission run hotter, I would try a 2500 stall and get a big transmission cooler with its own fan. If he is not physically breaking hard parts and just smoking the clutch packs it is because of heat, heat kills automatics. Also run Dexron VI in the next transmission, they can take more heat and does not foam as much, foam also kills automatics, is he over filling the fluid at all? Over filling causes foam....just a few things to think about.

Hmm... Back in the day... Some times they left some of the clutches and steels out when they built them transmissions some how or another. Makes them grab alot harder, slams into gear, no slippage, hard to burn them out that way. Idk if thats one you can do that with or not.. Just a thought.  ;D

4x4xdodgeman

when  you buy a cheap torque converter you will brun up the trans every time.  all the heat in the trans comes from tc. its not the stall size, i have 556hp big block mopar with 603 ft lbs of torque. i had 2500 stall and went 3800 stall used the same trans for 15 years.   so have your friend buy a new torque conveter and new trans. just donn't buy $300.00tc spend a little more and not b&m tc    go to mudlife and the vido on tc.

Orangecrush

Im runnin around 500 ponies, Im have a 350 turbo with a b@m race kit and manual valve body, trans temp gauge,3500 B@M  stall,513 gears 44 boggers, i rev limit my motor at 6000, never had any trans issues 2 seasons now. trans runs around 180 degrees, motor 200 degrees, maybe the 410's are stressin out the tranny or the stall is a cheap one building heat and frying it.  my stall cost around 500 bucks, it was for nitrous apps.

Thumper

there's nothing wrong with the gears he's runnin, it's the tranny. I used to go through one a season or more untill I found a really good trans guy. build the trans right with the right parts and he shouldn't have any more issues with the clutches. also need a very lagre cooler and fan, heat will kill a trans fast. I use old a/c condensers now as the cooler and a deep pan for extra capacity.

Very good tips right there..

Eroq

Either the trans wasnt built right, he needs to run a bigger cooler, or the torque converter is garbage...   honestly sounds like the trans wasnt done up to par....

MR NASTY

Trans may have been built right also. All it takes is one good overheat and the trans is compromised. Especially with that kinda power.

GotMud? between your trans cooler and radiator? That will kill it every time. Might look clean when ya hose it off, but still have stuff in between.. ;D
