I believe certain years have different pitch not sure tho.

anything newer than 91 has a different pitch you wont notice it at first but after starting it a dozen times or so it will destroy your flywheel.

used a newer starter (95ish) on my old 383 for 2 years with no issuse

i have a stock starter on my 406 13.5 to 1 compression , 7 years & 2 motors on it 

they must not believe you?
