hm, so since its sunday, i cant call the DMV, but i was wondering if anyone had any info on a how to run period correct plates, i bought a 67 comet last winter, been tinkering with it here and there, and its finally road ready, i have a pair of 67 plates from michigan that if i could i would like to run on the car, some people say you cant, others say you can, i figured i'd ask some people that had some sense and ask here! so if anyone can point me in the right direction, i looked on the sos site but it didnt have crap about it. i searched google and a few other things that started to look promising but ended up going nowhere, any help would be great, thanks.

im pretty sure you cant, but if you had a period correct plate, you could put it on the front, and than have a personalized plate made with the same sequence of numbers for the rear

I've seen older cars with plates that looked period, they said historic on the bottom of the plate...

once their expired for a certain period of time they won't let you reuse them, i tried just renewing my old plates on my truck after it sat a few years, and they made me buy new ones, said teh old were expired to long

my brother was going to put 67 plates on his 67 gmc two years ago and they were going to allow it, but it was going to be time consuming and cost a bit of money. he said they either had to have the plates or pics of the plates and send them in to get cleared through the system and ok'd which would be maybe a month or so. not sure about to this date but I dont think it would change.

there are two types classic (which are good for like 10 year's then you get them threw the DMV then there's antique there good for as long as you own the car/truck.... all you need to do is get the form from the DMV, then its all on you. you need  copy of your inssurance, your regastation, and a photo of the plate's you must have both plates in MI there used to be a front and rear plate. then you send the copys in they'll send you your new reg. by mail ..once you do that there regesterd to your car n no need to renew them as long as you have your car/truck  I have on on my 68 belair and one on my 72 not that hard ...good luck you need any help pm me

you can run a period plate......it would make the plate only good for parades and shows....take the plate with you to the DMV...they register it as a historical plate

Mudduck

U can look it up on line under michigan.gov  i did went thru that w my 64 there if u go w the historical plate there some rule / guideline under that and if u want to go w your own plate like u stated above it has a little bit strict rules

when i did both of mine all the DMV would do was give you the form unless its changed in the last 3 years ....and as for  the plate only good for parades and shows....ive never been messed with had historical on the belair till it ran out and now have period correct plates on my 68 belair and my 72 chevelle as far as im concerned if i ever did get pulled over im going or comming from a show or event of some kind or have'n it worked on you'll be good

its NOT a ford!! its a mercury! hahahah :) i know i know, same dif, i'll get you one next time i'm around the car, currently its 20  miles away from me, debating on what to do with the body, i found it in a barn, didnt run in 10 years, body was bubbling, got it for  700 slapped a new carb and coil on it, and fired it up, under 1000 bucks it runs and drives. going to get some of the rust issues taken care of it, but from what i can tell its mostly surface rust. i'll get the pics up when i can.

theres only one Chevy that i have in my driveway, just bought it a few weeks ago. http://rustfreeclassics.com/Chevy4X4/78K30_Dually_Crew_Tan.htm           i dont have personal pics of it yet, but its a beast, and gets all 4 mpg to show for it!
